Stargazing at Tranwell Farm

Stargazing goes far beyond seeing a few stars from your front lawn; it’s a breathtaking experience of witnessing a true ‘dark sky’, officially recognised by the International Dark-Sky Association. Our campsite is located adjacent to Northumberland’s Dark Sky Park which is one of the rare places in England where you can gaze up to see entire galaxies, spot constellations, and, if lucky, even catch the glow of the Northern Lights

We have put together a stargazing kit for guests wishing to fully immerse themselves in a stargazing experience and we also have a telescope you can hire too.

Our stargazing kits

We have put together a stargazing kit with some binoculars, hot water bottles, a rug to keep you cosy, a flask and the Philips Stargazing guide that you can hire to help make the most out of your experience.

You can also hire our Skywatcher telescope!

Make yourself comfortable

As our campsite has very low light levels so you can set up wherever you like on a clear night and take in the view.  We do recommend you wrap up warm though

"It can take up to 20 minutes for your eyes to fully adjust to the dark".

Stargazing apps

There are a number of phone apps available which help you track the stars such as Sky Guide, Night Sky and Sky view which are great fun especially for kids and they work anywhere so you can use them back at home too.

Dark Sky Events

Let the nights draw in and get ready to experience a totally dark sky. For unrivalled stargazing and a truly astronomical experience, sign up for a Northumberland Dark Sky event

We recommend Kielder Observatory or Battlesteads Observatory for some of the best, fun-filled and unforgettable Dark Sky Event nights. Grab your coat, wrap up warm and prepare to be amazed.
